Lithium Button Cell
PRODUCT SAFETY
The lithium battery must not be rechanged, disassembled, burnt or short circuited. Misuse LITHIUM MANGANESE DIOXIDE CELLS
may cause explosion or fire. Dispose ofcarefully. Refer to Health and Safety ExecutiveGuidance Note GS43.
Materials
This product should not be opened or incinerated since the following ingredients that could be exposed could be harmful: Highly flammable and corrosive. Reacts vigorously with water emitting flammable gas.
Toxic material. Irritant and oxidising agent. Harmful by ingestion Propylene carbonate (C H CO ) Clear colourless liquid. May be harmful by inhalation, injection, or skin absorption. Causes eye irritation and may cause skin irritation.
Highly flammable colourless liquid. May be harmful by inhalation, ingestion, Occupational Exposure Limits
Information on the Occupational Exposure Limits (OEL's) of the above-mentioned materials is currently only available for manganese Short Term Exposure Limit (10 minute reference period): Long Term Exposure Limit (8 hour TWA reference period): Storage and Disposal
Cells should be stored in a well-ventilated, dry area at temperatures below 70 deg C. The optimum storage temperature for maximum life is -10 deg C to +25 deg C.
In the event of a cell leaking, it should be carefully isolated from any other cells and placed inside a polythene bag.
If leakage occurs from a cell whilst connected to a printed circuit board it should be removed from the board as soon as possible in order to avoid corrosion.
Should liquid electrolyte come into direct contact with the skin it should be removed by flushing with warm soapy In the case of fire use a dry powder extinguisher based on graphite (LITH-X) or other suitable extinguishers designed for alkali metal fires. Water, CO2, or Halon extinguishers should not be used.
Cells and batteries should be disposed of in a secured land fill by arrangement with the local authority or by an indepenedent contractor. Do not dispose of in fire. Prior to their disposal, cell terminals should be protected by tape or other suitable means and be sealed in polythene bags. Cells and batteries should be fully discharged before Handling and Use
Do not attempt to charge or reverse charge cells. To do so may cause the cell to vent or explode.
Connecting cells in series could lead to reverse charging and this should only be carried out after advice.
Where there is any possibility of a charging current flowing, it is essential that the circuit for these cells should include Do not short circuit. This may produce high temperatures and cell rupture.
Terminations must be suitably protected at all times when not connected to a circuit.
Do not crush, puncture, open, dismantle, or otherwise mechanically interfere with or abuse these cells.
Cells should not be connected together to form a battery.
Do not replace a fuse in a battery by a higher rated fuse or attempt to bypass the fuse Observe correct cell polarity when inserting into equipment Caradon Trend Limited reserves the right to revise this publication from time to time and make changes to the content hereofwithout obligation to notify any person of such revisions or changes.
