Working directly with Ann Hould-Ward on The Glass Menagerie , paint, dye,
quilting and embroidery were employed to create a series of period looking fabrics
to enhance the desired effect of realism. Set in the 1750’s, The Merchant of Venice
called for a light weight pannier hoop of nylon rod, silk matelasse petticoats,
a set of silk brocade stays and Watteau backed gowns of brocade,
tastefully designed by Paul Tazewell.
